LIVE BOMB BURIED IN THE GROUND
THE police in Enugu, on Wednesday, 24 July, 2013, recovered bombs planted along Udi-Ozalla old road, a few
kilometres away from the Enugu State capital.
The discovery followed a tip off by
Arab Contractor construction workers on duty in the area who in the
early hours of yesterday, discovered some strange metallic objects in
the culvert and immediately alerted the State Commissioner of Police,
Danazumi Job Doma.
Doma swiftly deployed men of the
anti_bomb squad unit to the area and on arrival at the scene
discovered a locally made improvised explosive device, comprising
dynamites connected with a long battery, placed at the culvert.
The Anti-bomb squads moved into action immediately and recovered the explosive device from the scene.Doma who spoke with reporters on the breakthrough last night, said that
his men first of all neutralised the effect of the explosive before
evacuating it from the culvert.
He said that on further analysis, it was
discovered that the locally made bomb has catastrophic and damaging
effect of 15 metres radius.
The police boss explained that the
locally made explosive device comprising dynamites used in blowing
rocks, was actually waiting for a target so as to explode before it was discovered.
He urged members of the public to report
such discoveries to the police for appropriate action, saying that the
command is fully prepared to safeguard lives and properties especially during
the period of elections.
